Rut Report Update 1-18
Rutting activity in Central Alabama in some areas has increased significantly the past few days. We have seen normal trends but it has been better in some locations than at this time last year. Overall, buck activity during daylight hours is pretty good especially with the bright nights that we have had. The following counties reported as follows:
Lee- Finishing up, this area always starts earlier and bucks have been rutting since Christmas.
Macon- Starting to increase significantly, some areas are in peak and some are still a few days off.
Marengo- Small bucks chasing hard, several reports of bigger bucks hanging around the does in the evenings.
Lowndes- Some parts of this county are better than others. Smaller bucks chasing and several reports of rutting activity. Reports of large deer being killed with or around does.
Montgomery- Still a little off, scattered rutting activity but should be peaking soon.
Crenshaw- Reports of rutting behavior in younger bucks in some parts and reports of little or no activity in other areas.
Bullock- This county seems to have the rut in full swing in the eastern parts and still not quite started in other parts. Several good bucks have been killed the past week. Any day now
Butler- Reports similar to Lowndes and Montgomery. Small bucks chasing everywhere but still not as good as some would like.
Dallas- Several good bucks killed with or around does. Smaller bucks sighted frequently chasing hard. About the same stage as last year but maybe a little better.
With the weather and conditions staying in our favor- rutting should be in full swing in some areas right now and could start at any minute in some of the lagging counties. Good luck this week and remember to stay in the stand as long as possible. Lots of bucks are being seen and harvested after 10 in the morning.
